Power Rake

Providing Power Raking Services

Power raking is a crucial process for maintaining a lush and vibrant lawn by removing dead grass and excess thatch. At Michael Brothers, we recommend power raking once a year in the spring, before new growth begins, to promote a thicker and healthier lawn.

It’s important to note that we don’t remove the entire thatch layer, as a light layer contributes to a healthy lawn. Removing too much thatch or performing a deep power raking can potentially damage the root system. Our skilled professionals understand the balance required and will ensure the appropriate depth based on the specific needs of your lawn.

By choosing Michael Brothers for your power raking needs, you can trust our experienced team to deliver exceptional results. We tailor our services to each customer, and for repeat clients, we adjust the depth of power raking accordingly.

What is Thatch?

“Thatch” is the accumulation of dead and decomposing grass plants. Thatch is similar to many aspects of turf production – you can get too much of a good thing. Small amounts of thatch, in the range of 1/4 to 1/2 inch, can improve wear tolerance and surface resiliency, and reduce water loss and soil temperature fluctuations. Thicker layers, particularly beyond an inch, often cause serious problems. Excessive thatch reduces the effectiveness of fertilizers, watering and pest controls and provides a good habitat for disease and insects. Power raking should only be done in mid-spring (by late May) since damage is done to the lawn and there needs to be recovery time before there are extreme summer weather conditions.

Benefits of Power Raking

  • Enhances the effectiveness of fertilizers, watering, and pest controls.
  • Promotes a thicker and healthier lawn.
  • Removes dead grass, thatch, and debris, allowing the grass to breathe and grow vigorously.
  • Improves nutrient and water absorption into the soil, boosting plant health.
  • Prevents the development of lawn diseases and pests by reducing their habitat.
  • Enhances the overall appearance and resilience of the lawn, making it more resistant to environmental stressors.
