Why is it important to clean up your lawn?

A lawn that is neglected in the fall won’t magically be ready for growth in the spring. To ensure a healthy lawn by April or May, the clean-up work done in September or October is essential.

This includes a final cut, raking leaves to help your grass breathe and grow strong roots, and aerating your lawn. Harsh winter conditions can take a toll, making fall maintenance even more important.

Without a proper trim, leaf removal, and essential nutrients before dormancy, your lawn may struggle to recover when warmer weather returns.

A little fall maintenance also ensures that your lawn irrigation system is ready to switch on smoothly in the spring—so your lawn gets the best possible start to the growing season.

Fall Services

Cutting your grass in the fall is not simply a case of doing the same as you did in the spring or summer. The final cut of the year for your lawn should be with the shortest mower setting available. This allows more sunlight to reach the base of the grass and ensures that less of the blade is exposed to turn brown during our long winters.

Fall leaves look pretty on your trees but they can do real harm to your lawn.

They can encourage disease and preventing evaporation (they will effectively “choke” your lawn).

Fallen leaves need to be raked off before they get wet, stick together, encourage mould and fungus, and become more difficult to remove.

Grass clippings and leaves must be thoroughly removed from your lawn before the first snowfalls. If not, leaves and debris will form a virtually impenetrable barrier that will suffocate the grass and form a breeding ground for fungal diseases. Our fall packages include 2 bags of debris removal.
